Distance Learning Update

Communication Highlights:

  1. Distance Learning begins 11/23/2020
  2. Trimester 2 details will be sent 12/8/2020
  3. Encourage kids to engage with staff!

Dear Middle School East Families,

First, thank you very much for your hard work, collaboration and commitment to keeping students in school as long as we were possibly able to!  The fact that we haven’t entered into DL until the week of Thanksgiving is a testament to our students, families at staff!  Your flexibility and continuous support is greatly appreciated!

As we approach our time transitioning from the Hybrid Model of Learning to Distance Learning, I wanted to provide you with a brief update.  First, and most importantly, we want to reiterate that we are here for your children!  We very much want to instill a continued routine of school and will be working hard to finalize a plan for the second trimester that incorporates a high level of synchronous learning.  Synchronous learning is most widely understood as learning where both the teacher and student are online teaching/learning at the same time.  As a reminder, we will be utilizing December 7th - 9th as planning days for our staff.  There will not be new learning materials distributed to students on these days as staff will be participating in staff development and planning time.  More information with the specifics of this plan will be sent to you on December 8, 2020.

In finishing the first trimester over the next eight days, November 23-December 3, students will follow the Wednesday Distance Learning plan every day.  Teachers will launch daily lessons for students each day at 9:00 a.m.  Students will go to their Google Classrooms to access daily lessons to learn from.  Teachers will be available following the schedule below to answer questions, reteach material, or explain lessons in a new way to promote learning.  To promote student-teacher interaction, further socialization and peer connection, and strong daily schedules and routines, teachers will be strongly encouraging students to actively participate in attending their office hours.

Of the many things that are difficult about the times we are currently in, one of the things that I am most grateful for are our students, your families and the staff at Middle School East!  You are all a true blessing in which I am most thankful for the opportunity to work with!  Many warm wishes and positive thoughts to your and your families for happy and healthy future days!
