We would like to provide you with updates on two unrelated incidents that took place in the district on Wednesday, June 22.
Middle School East: The morning of Wednesday, June 22, there was a strange smell reported (possibly a gas leak) in the grade eight pod. Xcel Energy came out along with the St. Michael Fire Department and the Wright County Sheriff's Office. After a thorough assessment, it was determined that there was not a gas leak. After approximately two hours, the pod was cleared for students and staff.
Middle School West: Also during the morning of Wednesday, June 22, there was a small fire in the shop at Middle School West. The Albertville Fire Department and Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the alarm. There were a small number of students and staff in the building. No one was hurt. Our extraordinary custodians will work with our cleaning service to remove the soot and smoke. With an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of our students and staff, student summer activities scheduled at Middle School West are canceled for the rest of the week and district office staff will work at other buildings for the remainder of the week.
The safety of students and staff is our highest priority. We take all situations very seriously and work closely with local emergency responders. We are very grateful for the quick response of all involved in resolving these issues. This reminds us of how incredibly fortunate we are to have strong, supportive, and reliable community partners, including Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Albertville Fire Department, and St. Michael Fire Department.
