Substitute Staff

  • Substitute positions are available for those that are interested in working for the STMA schools on an on-call basis. STMA is currently hiring substitutes to fill absences for teachers, paraprofessionals, food service, maintenance, and transportation. Choose the substitute position you are interested in applying for in the online application system. An approved background check, I-9 verification, and payroll paperwork must be completed prior to working as a substitute for the STMA School District.

  • Teacher Substitutes

    Effective Feb. 1, 2022 the daily substitute rate is $165/day for the remainder of the 21-22 school year. 

    For those interested in substitute teaching that have a four-year degree but not in education, you will need to apply for a short-call substitute teaching license through the Minnesota Department of Education. Your MDE application will include a processing fee, a district verification of hardship form, a completed fingerprint card, and official transcripts in a sealed envelope from the colleges/universities you attended. 

    In your application, please include the following:

    • Cover letter
    • Resume
    • Teaching license or short-call substitute license
    • Copies of all college transcripts (unofficial)
  • Support Staff Substitutes
    (Paraprofessionals, Food Service, Maintenance, Transportation)

    For those interested in subbing for support staff absences, a high school diploma is required.

  • How Subbing Works

    STMA uses an absence management system called SmartFind. Current staff post days that they will be absent in the system and substitutes can view openings and request to fill the opening. Depending on the qualifications assigned, SmartFind may also contact subs in the mornings or evenings with openings by phone.
