Content Area Curriculum Information

The primary goal of STMA’s curriculum review process is to develop a guaranteed and viable curriculum. A guaranteed and viable curriculum is one in which the agreed-upon essential content and skills are covered within the allotted instructional time. STMA recognizes that a guaranteed and viable curriculum has a strong correlation to student achievement (Marzano, 2000).

See below to learn more about the specific curricular content areas and view curriculum maps.

The curriculum review process supports the review of curricular content, common assessments, course offerings, and resource selection on a ten-year cycle with the opportunity to run an interim cycle in year five. Each content area is on the cycle for one year. In years two through ten, the district’s curriculum review process is integrated with the work of PLCs. Departments also have the opportunity to participate in a continuous improvement cycle if a standard curriculum review cycle does not meet department needs at that time.

During the 2024-2025 school year, Social Studies and Elementary English Language Arts (ELA) will be on the curriculum review cycle. STMA's Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework will continue to focus on strong tier 1 core instruction and aligning assessments.

Note: Special Education and English Language (EL) are part of each curricular area as needed.

Responsibilities & Expectations In Review Process

The curriculum review process is supported by the District Advisory Committee (DAC), which is an advisory committee comprised of community members, parents, school board members, a student, and staff members. The primary purpose of the DAC is to advise the superintendent and school board regarding curriculum, assessment, programming, and other related matters.
