November 13, 2019Let's hear if for the STMA Girls Basketball Teams, as they won 3 out of their 4 games yesterday over the Becker Bulldogs.7A won 36-27 over Becker. Abigail H. had 18 points followed by Renae F. with 6 points. 7B were also victorious.
8A jumped out to an early lead,taking advantage of a major size advantage & went on to cruise to a blowout victory to open their season. Rebounding was key in this 1, earning the hometeam Knights many extra shot opportunities. The trio of Ava H., Atley N., & Daysia S. combined for 31 points. Maggie S. & Fae B. did an awesome job collecting 17 rebounds!8B took an early lead, but couldn't hold on, falling 32-21. Judsona C. led the Knights with 15 rebounds and some good hustle, while the team was paced in scoring by Madison B., Mia H., Erin P. and Suili C., who all scored 4 points or more.November 22, 2019In Thursday night's Basketball action, the girls traveled to Becker for a rematch with the Bulldogs, and came home with a 2 game split. The 8B team displayed a great team defensive effort, but fell a little short to the Bulldogs by a score of 18-10. Mia H. led the team in steals and Judsona C. once again led the team in rebounds before leaving the game with a tweaked ankle. Erin P., Suili C., Maddie B., Jusona C., and Mia H. all scored for the Knights. The 8A squad had little resistance on improving their season record to 2 and 0. The girls moved the ball really well on Offense, showing off a fun, unselifish brand of basketball. Fae B., Katie S. and Halle H. all had some nifty passes to teammates to lead to easy buckets. The girls will travel to Big Lake on Monday afternoon for a clash with the Hornets.November 26, 2019Congrats to the 8th grade Girls Basketball Teams as they went to Big Lake Monday afternoon, and brought out the brooms, as they completed the 2 game sweep of the Hornets. The A team improved to 3 and 0 on the season with a 35-23 victory. The girls overcame a cold shooting night by being relentless on the glass and earning 2nd and 3rd shot opportunities. Balanced scoring was key led by Ava H. with 7, and the two Maggies- K. and S. - each chipping in 6. The B team put together a nice game on both ends of the court and earned their 1st Win of the season! Brooke O., Maddie B., and Adrian B. combined for 17 points to lead the team. The teams are back in action tonight at Monticello for a bout with the Magic.December 2, 2019Give a High 5 or a fist bump to an 8th gr. Girls Basketball Player as they won both their A and B games in Monticello this past Tuesday before the break. Maggie K. led the way with 12 points, and Daysia S. chipped in 8 as the A team improved to 4 and 0 on the season. The B team earned their 2nd straight victory with a nice road win over a talented Magic squad. Mia H. knocked down two 3 pointers on her way to a team leading 14 points. Judsona C. gathered 11 rebounds and added 4 points. The Girls will travel to Buffalo today after school for a clash with the Bison.December 3, 2019Let's give a ShoutOut to the 8th grade Girls Basketball Teams, as they went over to Buffalo yesterday afternoon and took care of the Bison in both games. The A team put together their most impressive game of the season, winning 57-9! This was the 5th straight win for the team and to watch these girls play unselfish, team-first ball is really fun to see. They are making great passes and finding their open teammates and taking and making the right shot. Three Lady Knights were in double figures-led by Maggie S.'s 13, Ava H. filled up the stat sheet including her 11 points, and Daysia S. again turned in a strong performance, finishing with 10. The 8B Team grabbed their third straight win of the season by beating Buffalo 27-15. Judsona C. was on fire, cleaning up the boards and putting in 10 points including a nice transition bucket. Brooke O. also lit up the scoring with 7 points and a nifty fast break pass and Erin P. netted 4 points. Sam K. scored a bucket and Mia H. drilled a three pointer to round out the scoring.December 4, 2019The 8B Girls Basketball team lost a close battle with Isanti, falling 33-34. Erin P. led the scoring with 14 and Mia H. poured in 12 with two quick three pointers to start the game.The 8A team continued their dominance and cruised to victory # 6 on the season. All 10 Lady Knights scored at least 1 basket in the winning effort.December 11, 2019Congratulations to both 8th Grade Girls Basketball Teams as both teams were victorious over their rivals- the Buffalo Bison yesterday afternoon at MSW. The A team improved their season record to 7 and 0 as they outscored the Bison 21-8 in the 2nd half to pull away. Atley N. and Halle H. played great games on both ends of the floor to lead the charge. The B team were down the whole game, and came back and won, as Mia H. scored a tough driving layup, and nailed a pull up jump shot in the last 90 seconds of the game to lead the Ladies to the exciting comeback Win. Adrian B. collected 8 rebounds, and Brooke O. had 4 steals to aid the effort.December 17, 2019The 8th grade Girls girls Basketball teams both returned home victorious over the Cambridge Bluejackets on Monday afternoon. The B team earned their 5th win of the season by a convincing 40-10 score. Suili C. was on fire scoring 9 points and had a personal best 21 rebounds. Maddie B. and Judsona C. scored 9 and 8 points each, and Mia H. crossed over the Bluejackets on her way to 8 points.The A Team again proved their dominance, taking care of the Bluejackets in a blow out victory, and moving to 8 and 0 on the season. All 9 Lady Knights who suited up, scored at least 2 points to aid the team in its winning ways. Katie S. turned in a strong game with 9 points and 12 rebounds.
2019 Middle School Girls Basketball Information
First Day of Practice: Monday, October 28th. Practices are held at Middle School West Monday through Thursday from after school until 5:00 in the Gym. Students will be bussed from MSE to MSW after school each day. You will need to pick up your daughters at MSW each night after practice.

Sports Physical: Players need to have a sports physical on file in Mr. Holler's office. Sports physicals are valid for three years. You need to have a sports physical on file in order to register.
Registration: Registration is now open through ParentVue. You may register online by clicking on fee pay, and then activities. You will need to fill out the eligibility form online and electronically sign it (parent and athlete need to sign). You will then be asked to pay the $150 activity fee. If your family is on the reduced or free lunch plan, your fee is lower. The system should tell you how much you have to pay according to your lunch account. If you think there is an error with the fee, please contact Activities David Holler at 763-497-2655 extension 5. Make sure your daughter has a valid physical on file with the activities office or the system will not allow you to register.
Behavior: As an athlete for Middle School East, our athletes are ambassadors of our school. As an ambassador of our school, we expect our athletes’ behavior to be exceptional. We want our athletes to be positive role models for others to see and follow.
Important Policies to remember:
- Students need to be passing all of their classes to be on the girl's basketball team. Mr. Holler will check to see if players are passing all of their classes at mid-tri.
- Students need to be in class five full periods of the day in order to practice or play in a game that night. Students with a doctor’s appointment may be excused from this requirement if they have documentation from the doctor referencing the appointment. Make sure to bring this note , from the doctor to our attendance person.
- Your coaches will expect the players to be at practice every day. Practices are at Middle School West after school Monday through Thursday until 5:00. Missed practices may result in reduced playing time.
- We will bus you to and from all road events. You may ride home with your parents after road games rather than the bus if you wish. You need to have your parent sign out with your coach if you ride home with a parent. If you are planning to ride home with someone else’s parents, your parents need to notify Mr. Holler of this one day in advance.
Website: Your basketball team has its own website. Go to the www.stma.k12.mn.us, click on "our schools", click on “Middle School East”, then click on “activities”, and then click on “MSE athletics page”. From here you can access all the different sports pages. Your schedule, important information, and your coach’s email address can be found on your team web page. Eventually your team picture and write-ups from your games may appear there as well.
