Game Highlights from 3/11 vs Big LakeThe 7th grade Boys Basketball team finished off their season against Big Lake Thursday and came away with a split. The B team started off the night with a 40-32 win. Every single player on the team scored on the evening and contributed to the win. Tyler R. led the way with 10 pts. John S.finished with 9 pts. Liam H. had 8 pts. Connor M. and Gavin B. had 4 pts each. Jonathan L. had 3 pts, and Tristan S. used a nice back door cut for a layup to finish with 2 pts.The A team came out on the short end of a 56-33 score. They rebounded with the taller Hornets well for a while, but eventually got worn down as the game went on. Ethan J. led the way with 7 pts. Titus S. and Rowan A. each had 6 pts. Mason V., Lane J., and Trey G. had 4 pts each. AJ H. finished with 2 pts. Coach Hanson and Coach Hary would like to thank the boys for the season and how they handled the challenges of this season. They encourage them to get into the gym in the off season and make themselves better basketball players.
Game Highlights from March 9th at IsantiThe 8th grade Boys Basketball A team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 65-31 win over Isanti Tuesday night. Every player on the team had multiple scores. Gage K. had 18 points. Cody F. had 12, Gavin E. had 11. Tse N. dominated the glass and had 17 rebounds in the game.The 8th grade B team played a good game but ended up losing to Isanti by 8. Dylan M. led the team with 20 points. Jaeger O. came away with an amazing 3 pointer. Braeden W. had four points and Jaydon A. had two points. All the boys played a tough game.The 7th grade Boys Basketball team traveled to Isanti to take on the Bluejackets and came away with a sweep. The A team played their most complete game of the year both offensively and defensively and won 61-30. They utilized a pressure defense to create offense and also attacked the basket effectively to secure the win. They were very balanced in the scoring column as every player who played scored in the game. Three players got into double figures for the Knights: Titus S. led with 12 pts. Brendan H. and Nick R. each had 10 pts. Trey G., Lane J., and Mason V. had 6 pts each. Rowan A. and Ethan J. contributed 4 pts each and AJ H. had 3 pts.The B team also used a tough defensive effort to secure the win 20-13. They kept the Bluejackets to single digits in both halves. Offensively Tyler R. led the way with 10pts. John S. was next with 5 pts. Connor M. had 3 pts and Jonathan L. had 2 pts. Gavin B. continued his dominance on the boards and finished with 7 rebounds and Tristan S. contributed to the defensive effort with 3 rebounds. The final game of the season is Thursday against Big Lake.
Game Highlights from March 4th vs Becker
The 8th grade Boys Basketball B team lost by 12 against Becker. The boys played a great game defensively. Dylan M. led the team with 13 points and many rebounds. Micheal D. scored 4 points and played an amazing defensive game. Anton P. scored 3 points and had four steals. Jaeger O. and Braeden W. played a great low game with many rebounds. Jacob G. played a tough defensive game.
Game Highlights for March 2nd at MonticelloThe 7th grade traveled to Monticello to take on the Magic and came away with a pair of defeats. A poor night shooting from the field and the Magics decided advantage in the rebounding department contributed to the A team defeat. Mason V. led with 5 pts. Lane J., Brendan H., AJ H., and Titus S. had 2 pts each. The B team used balanced team effort in their scoring column but still came up on the short end of the scoreboard. John S. had 9 pts to lead the way for the Knights. Connor M. had 7 pts. Liam H. had 6 pts. Tyler R. had 3 pts and Jonathan L. had 2 pts. Tristan S. pulled down 3 rebounds and Ben R. grabbed 2 rebounds for the Knights.
Game Highlights for February 23rd at BuffaloThe East Boys Basketball A squad defeated Buffalo 45-31. Mukandas A. iced the game with a clutch free throw and 3 steals in the final two minutes of the game.The East Boys Basketball B team came out against Buffalo Tuesday night, and although they lost the game, they won in many other ways. Each of the boys wore a purple ribbon on their socks to honor and show respect for those affected by the Buffalo Allina Clinic shooting two weeks ago. They showed respect, honor, and support toward a grieving community.
The 7th grade boys basketball team took on Buffalo Tuesday night and came away with a split. The A team won 37-28 behind a balanced scoring attack with 9 players contributing in the scoring column, Mason V. led the way for the Knights with 13 pts. Brendan H. and AJ H. had 5 pts apiece. Titus S. had 4 pts. Rowan A., Lane J., Drew D., Trey G. and Ethan J. all had 2 pts each. The B team came up on the short end of the scoreboard in their game and lost 42-23. John S. led the team with 11 pts. Jonathan L. had 4 pts. Tyler R. and Connor M. had 3 pts each and Gavin B. had 2 pts. The next game on the Knights schedule is home against Buffalo on Thursday.
Game Highlights for February 22nd at Chisago Lakes
The 8th grade Boys Basketball A team defeated Chisago Lakes by 35 off of a great team defensive effort Monday night. Gage K. led the way with 26 points. Layton B. added 15. The 8th grade B team gave it their all out on the court Monday night but lost 23-21 despite playing an amazing game. Dylan M. led the team with 10 points followed by Kamden S. with 6 points and Jaydon A. with 3 points. We crashed the boards and came away with many rebounds and 9 steals.
The 7th grade Boys Basketball team traveled to Chisago Lakes and took on the Wildcats Monday, but unfortunately the Wildcats came away with the win. Balanced scoring was there for the team. Mason V. and Brendan H. led the way with 6 pts each. Titus S. and Liam H. had 4 pts each. AJ H. had 3 pts. Jonathan L., Tyler R., Drew D., Nick R., Ethan J. had 2 pts each. Rowan A. had 1 pt. The boys return to action today as they take on their rivals the Buffalo Bison.
East vs West Friday, February 19th Game HighlightsThe East 8th grade A Boys Basketball won 46-31 over West on Friday afternoon. Gage K. led the team with 12 points. Tse N. had 8 points and 4 steals. The 8th grade B Boys team lost to West 41-23. The boys played a much better second half after shaking off the first half nerves. Dylan M. had 14 points. Jaeger O. and Braeden W. played a great low game accumulating many rebounds. Kamden S. played an amazing defensive game in the second half.
The 7th grade boys basketball team started off their season against their rivals/classmates from West and came away with a split. The B team won 28-10 paced by Jonathan L. and John S.’s 10 pts each. Tyler R. contributed 6 pts and Gavin B. had 2 pts. The A team had a rough night shooting and couldn't find a rhythm offensively and ended up losing to a balanced West attack. Titus S. led the way with 8 pts. Nick R. had 4 pts. Ethan J. had 2 pts. Brenden H. had 1 pt.

Season: Monday, February 8th - Thursday, March 11th
Practices are held at Middle School East after school.
Schedule: We will be in Distance Learning February 8th-11th and then we will be doing in person learning. All students will participate all four days in each of those models.
When we are in-person learning, the middle school winter activities will mirror the hybrid academic model. Students that are coming to school on A days (mostly Monday and Tuesday) will participate on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students who are attending school on B days (mostly Thursdays and Fridays) will participate on those days.
- Students may only participate with their group (A or B)
- Catholic School Students and students that have elected to do full distance learning will be placed into either an A group or B group. This may done to balance numbers.
- The activity fee will be reduced in half from $150 to $75 to reflect this.

Sports Physical: Players need to have a sports physical on file in activities office. Sports physicals are valid for three years. A student with a three-year clearance that expires at any time from March 12, 2020 through the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year will have the clearance extended through the completion of the 2020-2021 school year. You need to have a sports physical on file in order to register through SmartSchoolK12 in ParentVue.
Registration: All Middle School sports registration is done online using ParentVue.
STMA has a new online registration system, SmartSchoolK12 also known as Affinety. You will need to create a new account and add a funding source before registering. Follow the instructions on the links below. Please follow both sets of instructions to help avoid confusion. Please note, when you register for activities one of the questions asks about online school. In this case, online refers to being enrolled in a fully online school and does not represent distance learning.
Behavior: As an athlete for Middle School East, you are an ambassador of our school. As an ambassador of our school, we expect your behavior to be that of a positive model for others to see and follow.
Important Policies to remember:
- You need to be passing all of your classes to be on the basketball team. Mrs. Schleicher will check to see if you are passing all of your classes at mid tri.
- You need to be in class four full periods of the day in order to practice or play in a game that night. If you have a doctor’s appointment, you may be excused from this requirement, but you need to make sure to bring a note to our attendance person, from the doctor explaining that the appointment took longer than usual.
- Your coaches will expect you to be at practice every day. Missed practices may result in reduced playing time.
- We will bus you to all road games and back to East, but you may ride home with your parents after a game rather than ride the bus back to East. You need to have your parent sign out with your coach if you ride home with a parent. If you are planning to ride home with someone else’s parents, your parents need to notify Mrs. Schleicher of this one day in advance.
- Families complete daily self health checks.
- Staff complete daily self health checks.
- If a student exhibits symptoms, the student will be isolated from the group, and the parent will be notified and asked to pick up the student.
- Face coverings need to be worn at all times.
- Students are separated into A/B schedule to limit numbers in they hybrid model. During Distance Learning and In Person Learning, all students participate on the same days but will be separated into pods of no more than 25 students.
- Students will come to school dressed for your activity.
- Students will not have access to the locker rooms during Distance Learning and may have limited access during In Person Learning.
- Students need to bring all of their stuff to their practice locations.
- Students need their own water bottles labeled with their names.
