Why School Funding Matters to Your Child

Why School Funding Matters to Your Child Video

Our state's current policy for funding public education is grossly inequitable, irrational, and inexplicable.

  • STMA ranks last in general education revenue per pupil excluding the local referendum among 335 Minnesota public school districts.
  • STMA receives over $2,100 less in total revenue per pupil compared to the state average of $9,000.

Excess Student Accident Insurance Coverage

Parents/guardians can sign their children up for excess student accident insurance coverage for covered injuries related to school accidents.  Several options are available including school time accident coverage, 24 hour accident coverage, football coverage, and dental coverage.  The cost of the premium paid by the parents/guardians is based upon the coverage and benefit level.  Parents/guardians can get information by going to the school or district web site, clicking on .  Insurance may be purchased by entering the student and contact information and selecting the payment method.   The insurance site provides insurance plan coverage details and lists an insurance agent for questions.

STMA school district does not provide medical coverage for school related injuries due to an accident or for out of pocket expenses from family health insurance coverage.  This accident insurance coverage is provided through Sentry Insurance Company as an option for parents/guardians to purchase.

No Shots No School Initiative

Posted on: August 14, 2014

The goal of the No Shots No School initiative is to have all children immunized on the first day of school.  If you do not have a health care provider, you cannot get an appointment with your healthcare provider before school starts or you do not have insurance; you can make an immunization-only appointment with one of the participating clinics (in most cases, on the day you call).  Your child can receive the required immunizations without a physician visit or preventive care exam and without direct charge to you.  If you have insurance and your insurance covers immunizations, the clinic will bill your insurance.  If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover immunizations, there will be no charge.  To utilize this service call Julie Winkelman, School Nurse, at 763-497-6520 (you need to bring a form signed by the School Nurse to the clinic).
