Good morning.  It is Friday, February 24th, it is a day 3.  It is Book Character Day.

Students: You have until next Tuesday to order your yearbook! We will NOT order extras, so if you don't order one by Tuesday, there is no guarantee that you'll have one in the spring. Get an order form in the office or order online today!

Today is the last day to register for summer softball through community ed.  The website to register is www.stmagirlsfastpitch.com.

Wrestling MatRat t-shirts will be for sale next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The cost is $15.  See Mr. Hackenmueller for a shirt.

Permission forms for 7th & 8th graders who would like to go to the semifinal match of the state wrestling tournament on March 2nd are in the office.  The cost of the trip is $14.  This covers both your bus ride and your ticket.  Pick up one up if you want to go.  They need to be turned into Mr. Sukalski by 3:15 next Tuesday.  If you don’t turn them in by Tuesday, you will not be able to ride the bus down.

The boys’ varsity hockey team will host Roseau in the Section 8 AA semi-final game at 7:00 tomorrow night.  Tickets will go on sale at the rink at 6:00 pm.  It will be a full house, so you may want to arrive early.   Come out and cheer the Knights on to victory!

Do you like Dodgeball?  The High School Boys Lacrosse team is hosting a Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, March 25th at Middle School East.   Get a team of 6-10 students and pick up a form in the office.  The cost is $10 per person.  Come and compete against players in your age group!   Prizes for first place and Best Uniform!

A silver necklace with a soccer ball on it has been found.  Please claim it in the office.

The 7th grade basketball team took on West last night and managed a split.  The Gold B team played well and  won 34-24.  Drew E. turned numerous steals into layups to lead the way with 20 pts.  Tommy K., Caleb B., Sawyer F. each had 4 pts.  Carter H., and Logan S. each had 2 pts.  The A team had a disappointing defeat at the hands of West 40-34.  The first half the boys could do no wrong as they came out with tremendous effort and intensity and rolled to a 15 point halftime lead.  After half though, the basket was not as kind, turnovers increased, momentum shifted and West picked up their intensity to hold the squad to only six second half points.  Throughout though, the squad played hard through good stretches and bad ones.

Check out the Middle School East Media Center Webpage to view all the Mystery Reader Videos and the Reading Medallion Videos.   You can enter the Mystery Reader contest by stopping by the Media Center.  We are also having the Book Poster Contest in the Cafeteria.  Today will be last day to enter that contest during lunches.  A HUGE thanks to Cole and Will S. and Ms. Zachman for helping out with that!!  We really appreciate it.  The winner will be announced on Monday. Remember you can come to the Book Swap in the media center.  You can trade a book when you bring one in.  Lots of good books are available. As your KORT classes finish your posters, you can hang them in the hallway with your sign.  If you need some tape to hang it up, come and grab some from the media center.  We can't wait to see your finished posters.  Today we would like to welcome our STMA school district Superintendent, Dr. Foucault to our building this morning during KORT.  She is reading to our WEB KORT class today.  Thanks, Dr. Foucault for taking the time to come and visit. We have a booth set up in the media center for anyone who is dressed for Book Character Day.  We would love for you to come on down and Mrs. Ferris will take your picture.

Have a great day.

A Loud Shout Out to the 8th grade Boys Basketball A Team for their thrilling come from behind overtime victory in Monticello Tuesday afternoon! After Ryan A. hit a three pointer to pull the Knights within one, the Magic sank their two foul shots to give them a three point cushion with three seconds left.  After a timeout, Jackson N. heaved up a Tom B. style 75 foot shot and nailed it at the buzzer to send the game into OT!  Jackson and the Knights took control of the game in the extra period, knocked down their free throws and came out on top in one of the most exciting middle school basketball games you could ever watch. Luke J. led the squad with another double double, finishing with 15 points and 12 boards.  Jackson N. finished with 13 points, 9 of them coming in OT.  The Blue B Team put together two solid halves of hoops against a very good Magic team, but just came up short in the end, dropping 34-29. The Twin Towers consisting of Porter O. & Aidan B. paced the Knights, by scoring a combined 14 points.

7th & 8th grade boys’ basketball teams are home tonight against West at 3:45.  B games are first.  Gold B teams play tonight.

Tomorrow is book character day.

Have a great day.

The 7th grade boys basketball teams traveled to Monticello last night and came away with a split.  The A team took on a good Magic team and hung around for awhile, but poor shooting and too many turnovers led to a 42-30 defeat.  Carson R. led with 11 pts. Rylan M. had 6 pts.  Kyle R. was next with 5 pts.  Caden N. had 4 pts.  Andrew B. had 2 pts.  Hayden F. and Ben K. chipped in 1 pts each.  The Blue B team kept their winning ways going with great intensity on the offensive and defensive end of the floor.  They hustled their way to loose balls, and dominated in the rebounding department to win 40-19.  Dalton C. had his best game with 10 pts.  Alex M. had 9 pts.  Gavin S. added 7 pts.  Weston P., Charlie B., Matthew A., Dylan A. and Wyatt N. each chipped in 2 pts apiece.

Tomorrow is Hawaiian day, and Friday is book character day.

Our posters for the “Name that Book” Contest are hanging in the cafeteria. To enter the contest you will try to identify the name of the book and the author.  There is a cart with the entry box and a sample entry form for you to look at when you are guessing your answers.  If you don’t know the author write the title of the book only.  The last day to enter this contest will be Friday.  You may only enter the contest one time.  Good luck!!  There are some great books on the posters.  We were going to have a new mystery reader today, but the book mysteriously disappeared and so we will have that tomorrow.  So you may still try to identify Mystery Reader #5.  Good luck.  Enter in the media center.  Don’t forget about the Book Swap table in the Media Center.  If you have a book that you have read and want to trade with a new one bring it in.  There are lots of good books to choose from.  If you have books to donate bring them in too.  That would be greatly appreciated!!  We will also have our third Reading Medallion Clue today.  Remember that the Medallion looks like the Newberry Award and is hidden somewhere in the middle school.  Put the clues together to try to locate it.  Good luck!! Stayed tuned after the announcements to hear the next clue.

Have a great day.
