Announcements - Tuesday, February 21

Good morning.  It is Tuesday, February 21st, it is a day 3.  It is PJ day.

Sixth graders, please remember to bring a long sleeve shirt and pants to swimming today.

The MATHCOUNTS pizza party is tonight after school until 4 PM in Mr. Mueller’s room.  Please come if you participated in MATHCOUNTS this year.  We can also wish the team well that competes at state next month.

If you would like to be part of the Middle School Book Club, you may register online or call Community Ed to sign up.  Grades 5 & 6 book club starts today and Grades 7 & 8 start February 28th.  The meetings will be held at West.  Sign up now!

Whether you want a recreational or travel softball experience, community ed has the program for you.  Go to www.stmagirlsfastpitch.com to check out their programs and register.  Registration is open through this Friday.

There will be an organizational meeting for all 7th & 8th grade girls who want to play school softball.  The meeting will be right after school in the cafeteria on March 1st.  It will last until about 3:30.

A gold post earring was found in the 7th grade pod.  Please claim it in the office.

A pair of black glasses were found in the 8th grade boys’ locker room.  Please claim them in the office.

The 8th grade boys’ basketball teams traveled to Big Lake this past Thursday afternoon and earned a split with the Hornets, with the Gold B team earning the win and the A teamers losing in a tight game. Blake R. had the hot hand early and got the Gold team off to a good start, knocking down two outside jumpers to ignite the Knights offense.  Josh D. netted one from deep and put in a driving layup to put in 5 points.  The Gold B team is now 6 and 1 on the season. The A teamers dropped to 3 and 4 on the season, dropping this contest by 8 to a talented Hornet squad.  Jackson N. and Luke J, kept the Knights close throughout the entire game.

7th & 8th grade boys’ basketball teams are at Monticello Middle School tonight.  Bus leaves at 3:20.  A games are first.  Blue B teams play tonight.

Tomorrow is sports day, Thursday is Hawaiian day, and Friday is book character day.

One more day on the Mystery Reader #5.  Check out the video on the website and the poster in the hallway!!  Enter in the Media Center.Today we will also start a week long contest during lunches.  We will have 15 posters hanging in the cafeteria and you will try to identify the book that each one is highlighting.  There will be an entry box in the cafeteria during each of the lunch periods.  Good luck in identifying each book.  The winner will get a gift certificate for the upcoming book fair in March!!

The reading medallion clue that was on the announcements is now posted on the TV and on our website.  Thanks Mrs. Tveitbakk for sharing the clue with us.   Today we will have a new mystery reader for you to try to identify.  A big huge thank you to our Mr. Bauer for reading from A Soldier’s Heart by Gary Paulsen.  It was so fun to hear you read that selection.  We wish that we all could hear you read the whole book. Congratulations to Mrs. Swanson, our 5th Grade science teacher, and Jackson C. for winning the contest.  Please come to the media center to claim your prize.We do have a new mystery reader today.   Once again listen for the reader and the book.  Enter in the media center.  Good luck!!

Today is the last day to enter the contest for Mystery Reader #4!!  The video is on the Middle School East Media Center website and the poster is hanging in the hallway!!  Students come to the Media Center to enter and staff you can send an email to Mrs. Ferris.

We also have our 2nd clue in the Reading Medallion Hunt today.  Remember you will need to put all the answers to the clues together to find the medallion. If you missed the first clue it is on our website.  Please stayed tuned for a video with the 2nd clue!!  I will also be posted on the website later today!!  Good luck to all!!

The 7th grade B Gold basketball team bounced back with a 31-22 win over Buffalo last night.  The gold team used aggressive defense and fast break scoring to build and maintain a comfortable lead for most of the game.  Drew E. had a great game attacking the basket and finished with 16 points.   Caleb B. had one of his best games with several key hustle plays and chipping in 5 points.  Also scoring were Dylan M. with 3, Austin A. with 2, Levi H. with 2, Sawyer F. with 2, and Sam F. with 1.  

The 8th grade boys’ basketball a teamgot their record back to .500 with an exciting comeback win over the Cambridge Bluejackets on Monday night. Luke J. kept the Knights in it all afternoon, registering a monster 16 point, 20 rebound game. Late game heroics belonged to Jackson N., who scored the go ahead layup with 8 seconds left, to give the Knights the win, 49 to 48.  Jackson also hit a HUGE game tying 3 in the final minute, he finished with 12 points.  The Blue B Team put together two solid halves of basketball and moved their record to 3 and 4 on the season with a 27 -23 win over Cambridge. Sam C. paced the squad with 10 points and 4 assists, Anthony S. pulled down 7 rebounds, Luke G. put in 4 points, and showed some great defense.

8th grade East Gold B team is home tonight against West at 3:45.
