Announcements - Friday, February 12

Good morning.  It is Friday, February 12th, it is a day 2. 

Congratulations to Calvin B.  Calvin finished third in the regional spelling bee in St. Cloud yesterday.  He did an awesome job under pressure.  He survived the first ten rounds until he got tripped up in round 11.  Calvin missed by one spot advancing to the multi-regional bee coming up later this month.

Congratulations to the Knights Honor winners for this week. They are George S. and Selena D.  Please come to the office at this time to claim your prize.

Parent/teacher conferences are Tuesday from 3:45 until 7:45.

Students please check your lockers for ice packs and return them to the Health Office.

Attention all MSE students interested in participating in a new event during academic seminar this year: Stress Busters will be meeting once a month during Academic Seminar.  The counseling department will be offering fun activities to help you relax and learn ways to deal with stress!  Our first activity is going to be offered to ONLY 5th grade students next Wednesday in the cafeteria.  5th graders will have the opportunity to get to get to know other students and their counselors, as well as participate in coloring to promote relaxation. If you are a 5th grader interested in this Stress Buster ask your KORT teacher to sign you up.  The first thirty 5th graders to sign up will be able to participate in the activity.  We will offer the same activity for 6th graders in March! See Ms. Carlson in the Counseling Office with questions.  

Fall Chess Club Members: If you were on the team that met here at East with Mr. Livers, please come to the ATRIUM next Tuesdayduring KORT for a team pic. We'll make an announcement inviting you down.

There will be a lacrosse clinic hosted by Augsburg College tomorrow at Middle School West for girls in grades 5-8. The cost of the clinic is $25.00 and includes a t-shirt. 5th-6th graders will go from 8:00-10:00 and 7th-8th graders from 10:30-12:30. Registration is online at www.stmalax.com as well as at the door on the day of the event. If interested, flyers can be picked up in the main office.

The Timberwolves and Lynx Basketball Academy is excited to announce an upcoming basketball clinic Monday featuring Minnesota Lynx player Lindsay Whalen. This clinic is for girls and boys ages 7-14.  It will be from 1:00 until 4:00 at STMA High School.  The cost is $84.

There will be a parent/player meeting for all girls in grades 7-12 interested in playing spring lacrosse on February 22nd at 7:30 in the High School cafeteria. For more information contact Coach Anderson.  There will also be an interest meeting for girls in grades 7-8 interested in playing spring high school lacrosse right after school on February 26th in the Middle School East cafeteria.

Summer baseball signups are open.  Parents can sign up their players by going to the St. Michal Youth Baseball web site.  Flyers are available in the office if you would like to pick up one.

The 8th grade girls basketball A team  had a nice win last night against Chisago Lakes last night.  The Knights got down 18-6 on a cold shooting start.  Then with five minutes left in the half they went on a 30-2 run to blow by the Wildcats and win 47-34.  Morgan C. had 7 points.  A shout out to the 8th grade Girls B Basketball Team on their 19-16 road win in Chisago Lakes last night.  Katelyn A. and Olivia G. each chipped in with a made baskets.

Good luck to Calvin B. as he participates in the Regional Spelling Bee in St. Cloud this afternoon.

Parent/teacher conferences are tonight and next Tuesday 16th from 3:45 until 7:45.

Softball players, go to www.stmagirlsfastpitch.com to check out the programs that the softball association has to offer and to register.  Recreational and travel programs are available.  Registration is open through February 19. 

The Girls 7A girls’ basketball team suffered their second loss of the season Tuesday night.  This time to a very strong Becker team.  The bright spot was the play of Erin H. who scored 15 of the Knights 21 points.  She was also solid on the defensive end playing excellent on the ball defense.  The 7B girls also fell to Becker 22-16.  Avery R. scored 8 points including a 3 pointer while Aaliyah H. scored 6. 

The 8th grade Girls B Basketball team lost to a very talented Big Lake Hornet squad on Tuesday afternoon.  Presilyn H. hustled her way to 5 steals, and Inomusa N. scored a basket to help the cause. 

8th grade girls’ basketball team is at Chisago Lakes Middle School tonight.  Dismissal from class is at 2:45.  B game is first.

Good morning.  It is Wednesday, February 10th, it is a day 3. 

Great job to our fifth grade band.  Your first ever concert last night was fantastic. 

The middle schools’ MATHCOUNTS team did quite well in St. Cloud yesterday.  The team made up of Zachariah B. and Lauren W., took second place in the Chapter (regional) competition.  This qualified them for the state MATHCOUNTS competition, which takes place March 11th and 12th in Plymouth.  Tyler G., Olivia S., Bella Y., and Kaitlyn B., took 2nd place in the unofficial team competition.  Lauren and Zachariah also placed in the top 16 out of 102 participants.

The 8th grade girls basketball A team suffered their 1st loss of the season last night at home to Big Lake.  The Knights got outscored 10-1 in the final minutes after running into foul trouble.  Courtney H. had 14 points in the 33-25 loss.
