Reading Corp Tutor Needed

Posted on: April 17, 2015

Applications are now being accepted to join our amazing team at Big Woods. We have an opening for a four hour per day Reading Corp Tutor available for the 2015 - 2016 school year beginning August 1st!

The literacy tutor will work one-on-one with 1st through 3rd grade students who need help with reading skills. They use prescribed literacy interventions and conduct weekly progress monitoring to ensure their students are on track to read at grade level by the end of third grade. They commit to daytime hours. As a Reading Corp Member, tutors receive extensive training, support, and professional development opportunities. In addition, they receive a modest living stipend, an education award, and may be eligible to receive other benefits. It is a chance to serve in your community, connect with students, and create lasting change – both in the tutor’s life and a young child’s life.

Applications are submitted online to Minnesota Reading Corps. To read more about the program, including full position descriptions and to apply, visit www.MinnesotaReadingCorps.org - click on Become a Tutor.

No Shots No School Initiative

Posted on: August 14, 2014

The goal of the No Shots No School initiative is to have all children immunized on the first day of school.  If you do not have a health care provider, you cannot get an appointment with your healthcare provider before school starts or you do not have insurance; you can make an immunization-only appointment with one of the participating clinics (in most cases, on the day you call).  Your child can receive the required immunizations without a physician visit or preventive care exam and without direct charge to you.  If you have insurance and your insurance covers immunizations, the clinic will bill your insurance.  If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover immunizations, there will be no charge.  To utilize this service call Julie Winkelman, School Nurse, at 763-497-6520 (you need to bring a form signed by the School Nurse to the clinic).
