Principals & Directors
Fifteen (15) days sick leave shall be provided each year. Unused sick leave days may accumulate to a maximum of 110 days. Principals shall utilize their sick leave if they are unable to perform their duties due to illness or disability, or by reason of necessity for medical, dental, or chiropractic care if the principal was unable to schedule such care outside the normal school day.
Up to ten (10) days per year cumulative of sick leave may be utilized upon written statement of a physician that the principal’s attendance to an ill spouse or parent residing in the principal’s household was necessary. Principals may use all of their accumulated sick leave for attendance to an ill child in accordance with M.S. 181.9413. Up to three (3) days of sick leave per year may be utilized for medically prescribed care of a parent or non-dependent child living outside of the home up to the discretion of the superintendent.
Two days of paid personal leave shall be provided each year (non-accumulative) to attend to situations which require the principal's attention during normal working hours. Notice for personal leave days must be made in writing to the superintendent of schools at least three (3) days in advance, except in case of emergencies.
A bereavement leave up to three (3) days with pay shall be allowed for death in the immediate family. Immediate family shall be defined as the principal’s spouse, child, parent, grandparent, grandchild, brother, or sister; and the spouse’s parent, grandparent, grandchild, brother, or sister. In other instances, leave may be granted at the discretion of the superintendent. Additional bereavement days may be approved by the superintendent and deducted from the accumulated sick leave.
