Superintendent's Message

Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the St. Michael-Albertville School District. I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to serve as the new Superintendent of St. Michael-Albertville Schools. Although my tenure is in its infancy, I am energized by the warm welcome I have received from so many, and by the enthusiasm and support expressed by a wide variety of stakeholders. I have worked in the STMA district as a teacher, curriculum director, and principal for the last 15 years. Likewise, I have lived in the community for the past 22 years. My husband coaches and owns his own business in the community and my daughter recently graduated from STMA schools. I have a vested interest in STMA schools and am thrilled to call STMA my home.

I am extremely proud of our tradition of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. This tradition of excellence is no small feat as we are one of the lowest funded school districts in the state. Our continued success is a testament to the outstanding students, staff, parents, and community members who continuously strive for excellence to ensure that each student is a self-directed learner, purposeful thinker, effective communicator, and a responsible citizen. It truly is a team effort.

My goal is for all students to learn to their fullest potential by supporting the social, emotional, and academic needs of each individual student. This foundation can be accomplished by providing a safe educational environment where students are encouraged to develop lifelong learning skills which nurture positive attitudes and self-worth. Equally important is maintaining sound fiscal practicesand being a strong advocate for equity in school funding.

I appreciate the unique opportunity and the enormous responsibility that goes with this position and look forward to partnering with students, staff, parents, and community members in continuing to guide the district forward in academic excellence and fiscal stability. I look forward to serving you and hope that if you haven’t already become involved in our schools, you consider sharing your time and talent as a volunteer. There is no better way to understand STMA’s tradition of excellence than to experience it firsthand. I look forward to seeing you in our schools and out in the community.

Superintendent

Excellence Is Our Tradition

The St. Michael-Albertville community has a long-standing tradition of high-quality education. Our families value the importance of excellent education as shown in their continued support of our schools.

STMA students excel because their learning is future focused and placed at the center of everything the district does. Student achievement ranks in the top 7% in Science, 12% in Math and 15% in English among Minnesota schools. ACT scores rank STMA in the top 15% of Minnesota high schools and STMA High School is recognized as an AP Honor Roll school.

STMA encourages all students to be involved in extra-curricular activities and to be a part of our community. Our students excel in sports, fine arts and clubs as is evident by our students and teams consistently being recognized year after year in academic, athletic and arts competitions.

  • Our sports achievements includes 80 state tournament teams and 15 state championships. In 2014-15 STMA teams earned 13 Mississippi 8 Conference Championships and 11 Sectional Championships; and 15 sports advanced teams or individuals to state tournaments.
  • Our art achievement is consistently recognized at the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards with students qualifying for showings at Carnegie Hall in New York.
  • Our instrumental and vocal music achievement includes ensembles who performed for the Minnesota Music Education Association and college festivals. In 2016 STMA was recognized as a GRAMMY Signature School semifinalist for Outstanding Commitment to Music Education (one of 119 schools in the nation).

Our community is proud of its $190 million investment in new facilities, which includes two elementary schools, one middle school and a high school which opened in 2009. The high school includes a state of the art Performing Arts Center and Activity/Fitness Center available to the public.

District enrollment for 2015-16 is approximately 6,080 students. Our schools include:

  • A primary school (kindergarten)
  • Three elementary schools (EC, 1st-4th grade)
  • Two middle schools (5th-8th grade)
  • One high school (9th-12th grade)

By increasing academic achievement for all students while maintaining sound fiscal practices, the school district continues to be the pride and center of the community.
