During the 2012-2013 school year, math will be on year one of the curriculum cycle.

The following is a review of what will occur during year one.

    • Current K-12 math curriculum will be mapped.
    • Best practices and current trends in math will be reviewed and discussed.
    • A district philosophy will be adopted based on best practice/current trends, the STMA mission/vision statement, and the STMA strategic directions.
    • College and Career Readiness standards will be studied.
      A mathematics benchmarking study will be conducted.
    • School stakeholders including parents, students, and staff will be surveyed.
    • National and state math academic standards will be studied.

During year two, the focus will be on writing curriculum that includes course essential questions, units of instruction, unit essential questions, and common assessments for each course. Resources will also be piloted.

During year three, curriculum will be field tested and revisions will be made. Years four through six involve monitoring and making changes as needed.
