The A Team finished with a nice 10 win, 4 loss season. The Blue B Team demonstrated the balanced attack they have shown all season, as they ended their season off with a victory over East, and a respectable 4 win, 8 loss season.  The Gold B team may not have finished the season with the record they were hoping for, but steady improvement of their offensive sets, teamwork, hustle, and much better defense was evident in each game as the season went on. Coach Edlund & Coach Fischer would like to thank all 34 players for their dedication and efforts during the season, and want to remind them that now, the off-season, is the time for them to improve on their games.  It was a fun season and we look forward to your continued success in all you do while you’re an STMA KNIGHT!

The Blue B team had a tough game and lost on the road to a very talented Annandale Cardinal B squad.

A shout out goes out to all of the 8th grade Boys Basketball Teams on 3 well played games against the Buffalo Bison on February 22nd. The Blue B team put an outstanding game together, and won 30-14. Eight different Knights scored in the contest, led by Jake B’s 8, Treyton K.-O.’s 6, and Gabe T.’s 5. The A teamers’ avenged an earlier season loss to the Bison, and picked up their fourth straight win with a 34-32 overtime victory. Riley P. shot the ball well on his way to a team high 18 points, including 4 triples. Robert P. swished a 10 foot baseline jumper that proved to be the game winner in overtime.

All three of the 8th grade Boys Basketball teams were back in action on February 20th. Both the Blue and Gold B teams lost close games, the Blue team to Princeton, the Gold team to East. The B teams continue to play hard and show improvement on both ends of the floor. The A team won a thriller, knocking off a previously undefeated Princeton Tiger team, 52-49. Robert P. hit a big 3 right before halftime to get the Knights within six. The teams exchanged runs to start the second half, but at the six minute mark, the Knights found themselves down 12. The team put together their best six minutes of the season, using a combination of suffocating defense and some timely buckets from Riley P., Johnny T., and Joe S., to take the lead with 45 seconds remaining. The Knights forced another stop on defense, Riley P. hit 2 free throws, and they secured a long rebound to ice their 7th victory of the season! Johnny T. was huge throughout the entire game, nailing five 3s on his way to a season high 24 points.

All three 8th grade boys basketball teams were in action on February 15th , with two teams traveling to Chisago Lakes, and one team staying back home to take on our friends from MSE. The A team jumped out to an early lead that would not be relinquished, as they led start to finish, earning their fifth win of the season. The team had a balanced scoring attack with six players scoring four or more points. The Blue B team played well, but just couldn’t hold off the Bluejackets in the final couple of minutes, losing in a close one- 27-22. Jake B. led the way with 12, Gabe T. put in 4, and Nik N. and Mason U. each chipped in two points.

All 3 of the 8th grade Boys Basketball teams were in action on February 8th, and the squads were able to win one out of their three games on the evening. Unfortunately, both the Blue and Gold B teams lost, Gold, dropping to North Branch, and Blue B losing to a very, very good Howard Lake Waverly Winsted team. The A team boys won in a thriller over a previously undefeated North Branch team, 45-40. The Knights found themselves down 3 at halftime, but a combination of better defense, and a nice 8 point scoring flurry by Joe S. got the hometown team back in front. Robert P. and Johnny T. each hit huge 3’s down the stretch to keep the lead. Alex N. turned in a solid performance with his 4 points and 6 rebounds. The A teams’ record now stands at 4-3.

The 8th Grade Boys A Basketball team picked up their third win of the season with a 53-39 homecourt victory over the Big Lake Hornets on February 6th. Trey B. led the Knights in the scoring column, putting in 14.

Congratulations to the 8th grade A and Blue B boys’ basketball teams, as they brought the brooms out on their road trip to Cambridge on January 23rd, sweeping the two game series against the Blue Jackets. The A Teamers’ got after it defensively, and opened up the game on a 12-0 run, not looking back, and cruising to their second straight victory. 9 out of 10 players contributed in the scoring column, led by Riley P.’ 13, and 4 assists. The Blue B Team took a 15-10 halftime advantage, but that lead slipped away, and the game was tied going down the stretch. Cameron K. and Dylan E. each hit HUGE 3’s to give the Knights some breathing room, and they hung on for a 29-27 victory. Dylan E. led all scorers with 10 points.

A shout out to the 8th grade Boys’ A Basketball team on picking up their first win of the season over one of the Buffalo Bison teams yesterday afternoon. Johnny T. poured in 22 points and had 6 rebounds. Unfortunately, both the Gold and Blue B Teams lost in close contests to the Bison. Gabe T. gathered 7 rebounds to help the Blue B team’s effort.

Jacob B. was outstanding on both ends of the floor, leading all scorers with 22 points. Dylan E. had 4 points and 4 assists, and Dylan B. added 4 points and 6 rebounds to aid the Knights attack. The other two 8th grade teams did not fare as well against the Magic; as the A, and Gold B teams both were defeated. The Magic defense smothered the A teamers, and held them in check on offense, Johnny T. put in 10 to lead the way. The Gold B team played hard but missed a few too many shots from close range. Trey B. and Charlie M. combined for 10 points in the loss.

The 8th grade Boys Basketball Teams opened up their seasons’ on the road on January 16th at Princeton Middle School, and unfortunately, came home with two losses. The A Team squandered away a 1 point halftime lead, and fell 45-38. A Lackadaisical effort on the defensive end was the demise for the Knights in this one. Riley P. & Joe S. combined for 23 points in the losing effort. The Gold B Team played hard, and went on a nice second half run to close the gap to 3 points, but that is as close as they would get, losing 38-25. Grady B. & Evan S. led the way with 7 points apiece, and Blake K. chipped in with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
