The 8th grade boys’ basketball Blue team defeated Cambridge on February 15th in a close battle. The Knights pulled away in the final three minutes of play to win 33-28. All players contributed in the win, led by Nick G. and MJ M. with 5 rebounds each, Ashton M. with 1 block, Wes K. with 8 points, and Logan S. with 5 points and 2 steals. The A team ran away with the lead early in the 1st half, creating a 30 point lead by halftime. They finished the game with a 54-17 win. Leading the team in boards were Alex M. and Xavier P. with 6 rebounds apiece. Rylan M. added the defensive pressure, hustling for 5 steals and cashing 15 points.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball team played Monticello on February 13th. The A team fell to the Magic, defeated by their screening offense and explosive drives. The Knights were unable to push the ball like they typically do, forcing them to slow down their offense. The Gold team defeated the Monticello Magic 40-33, pushing the tempo of the game and playing well as a team. Levi H. ran the floor well, scoring 8 fast-break points, while Sam F. and Mason W. dished out a combined 12 assists in the game. Parker H. stood tall last night, pulling down rebound after rebound. The Blue team picked up a 48-32 victory.Wesley K. led the team in scoring with 17 points followed by Caleb B. with 10.A great defensive outing by Cade C. whose pressure on the ball caused 5 steals and a collection of bad passes.Dylan B. and Nick G. crashed the boards with a combined 10 rebounds..M.J. M. and Jack B. piled up the assists while running a great team offense. It was a great team victory with each player getting into the scoring column.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball team travelled to Isanti on February 12th. The A team lost in the match-up struggling to make clean passes and create on office. The Knights fought back early in the second half to decrease the lead, but were unable to close the gap. Alex M. and Brooks O. led the team with some big rebounds in the second half. Hayden F. led the team in assists in his first game back after injury. The Blue team defeated Isanti in a 29-26 win. They led the game by 10 at halftime, but let Isanti back in the game near the end. The Knights were able to seal the win with a couple of pressure free-throws by Wes K. Dylan B. led the team with 8 rebounds, while Caleb B. led with 4 blocked shots.
On February 8th, the 8th grade Gold team defeated Princeton with solid team play. Charles B. let the team with 8 rebounds and 6 points. The team gathered 16 assists in the match-up. The A team fell to Princeton in a tough battle. They improved their inside defense since the previous match-up against the strong posts of Princeton, holding their dominating offensive threat to only 8 points, but second chances made it difficult for the Knights to take the lead in the end. Carson R. led the team offensively with 15 points, while Alex M. led with 7 rebounds.
The 8th grade Blue team defeated Buffalo on February 6th in a 39-30 win. The Knights pulled down 23 rebounds as a team, led by 5 from Nick G. and 4 a piece from Carter H. and MJ M.. Leading offensively for the Knights were Caleb B. with 12 points and Wes K. with 9. The A team also defeated Buffalo in a dominating victory. The Knights hustled for 19 steals and 28 boards in the game. Sawyer F. led the team in the victory with 8 points and 5 rebounds. The Gold team beat Buffalo in a 42-18 win, showing great team effort by pulling down 40 rebounds and dishing out 25 assists. Sam C. had a great game setting up his teammates and getting 5 assists.
The 8th grade boys swept Chisago Lakes on January 30th in some scrappy battles. The A team defeated the Wildcats 52-27, pulling down 25 rebounds as a team, and pushing the tempo with fast break scoring. The team was led by Xavier P. with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 points, and Kyle R. scored 15 points. The Gold team defeated the Wildcats 35-29 after trailing in the first half. The Knights took the lead early in the second half and held it for the remainder of the game. A few key players in the game were Parker H. with 5 boards, Gavin S. with 14 points, Jacob B. with 3 steals, and Dalton C. nearing getting a double-double with 8 rebounds and 8 points.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball A team fell to Buffalo on January 29th. The Knights struggled to create open looks against the tough defense, however they were still able to pull down 25 rebounds as a team, led by 6 from Ben K. Ben also hustled for three steals in the game. Xavier P. led on the offensive end with 8 points in the paint. The Gold team ended their evening with a dominating win against Buffalo. The team pulled down 33 rebounds and their tough defense earned 12 steals in the game, led by 3 from Jacob B. Gavin S. led the team with a season high 20 points and 7 rebounds. Mason W. added 8 points, and Sam C. added 5 points in the match-up.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball teams faced a tough match-up against Princeton on January 25th. The Blue team started out strong with back-to-back baskets by Aiden B.. The Tigers went on a run to take the lead which they held for the remainder of the game. The Knights fought back to close the gap, but were unable to gain the lead, losing 38-31. The Knights were led by Dylan B. with 7 assists and 6 points, Caleb B. with 5 steals, and Aiden B. with 6 points. The A team fell to the Tigers in a high intensity match-up. Our posts were put to the test against their big offensive threats, playing tough post defense. The Knights were able to cut the lead to 1 with an aggressive press at he end of the first half, but the Tigers increased the lead again in the second half. The Knights were relentless in their efforts, closing the gap with about 5 minutes left to play, only to fall 50-45 in the game. Leading the Knights were Kyle R. with 5 boards, Carson R. with 7 assists, 6 steals and 10 points, and Alex M. and Rylan M. with 8 points each.
The 8th grade boys basketball A team beat Isanti on January 23rd 44-29 with a balanced attack offensively. All players scored in the game, led by 11 points from Hayden F. and 7 from Ben K.. The team finished the game with 14 assists, sharing the ball to increase the lead. Their pressure defense earned 10 steals in the game. Xavier P. led the rebounding efforts by pulling down 8 boards. The Gold team also ended the night with a 27-22 win, remaining undefeated for the season. Good post play and hustle defense led the team to victory. The team was led by Dalton C. with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals and Mason W. with 7 points and 2 steals. The team’s defense earned them 12 steals in the game.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball Gold team beat North Branch on January 18th in a close match-up. The team led by one at halftime, and sealed the game with a 32-20 win. The team was led by 12 rebounds from Dalton C., 12 points from Gavin S., and 2 steals a piece from Austin A. and Sam C. The 8th grade A team fell to North Branch, unable to score against their zone defense. They cut the lead to three points with an intense press, but fell into foul trouble unable to gain the lead. The team was led by Sawyer F. with 6 rebounds, Carson R. with 5 assists and 10 points, Hayden F. with 3 steals, and Rylan M. with 9 points.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball team split with Big Lake on January 16th. The Blue B team fell 36-28 after a tough battle. The Knights fought back to take the lead early in the second half, only to lose their lead with three minutes left to play. Jack B. led the team with 3 steals, Dylan B. got his first block of the season, and Wesley K. and Ashton M. scored 9 points each. The A team won 48-35 with every player contributing in the win. They adjusted well to the zone defense and swung the ball to create open looks. The team was led by Brooks O. with 8 points, and Sawyer F. and Hayden F. with 7 points each.

2017-18 Boys Basketball - 7th Grade
All three games were decided by a total of 7 pts combined. All 10 players scored in this game, and the Knights once again trailed late in the second half by 6, but finished on a 15-8 run to seal the victory. The Knights hit a season high 5 three point baskets in the game. Matt M. led with 7 pts. Mason W. hit two key threes during the comeback to spark the Knights and finished with 6 pts. Colton D. and Zach H. also had 6 pts each. Aidan H., Brody O., and Charlie W. each had 4 pts. Logan J. had 3 pts. Owen Hecksel had 2 pts. The Blue B team sprinted out to a 17-10 halftime lead, but then the offensive end was not kind to the Knights in the second half. Fortunately the Knight’s defense picked up and they made enough stops down the stretch to gain the victory. Cole T. had 13 pts. Ashtyn G. had 4 pts. Colin M. had 3 pts. Issac Y. and Ethan R.-W. had 2 pts each. Sam H. contributed a nice assist on a back door to help score a basket for the Knights.
The 7th grade basketball team went on the road to Monticello to take on the Magic on February 26th and split a pair of games. The A team started with an impressive 47-33 win. The boys played well together, gave a great defensive effort and withstood a couple of Magic runs. Zach H. led the way with 10 pts. Matt M.and Logan J.each had 9 pts. Colton D.had 8 pts. Brody O.contributed 5 pts. Mason W.had 4 pts and Aidan H.had 2pts. The Gold B team played a hard fought defensive battle, but ended up losing 28-26. The Knights had their chances at the end, but were unable to cash in on their opportunities. Nathan D. led with 9 pts. Charles S.had 6 pts. Nathan S.had 5 pts. Leo F.had 4 pts. Dallon A.had 2 pts.
The 7th grade boys’ basketball team traveled to Big Lake to take on the Hornets on February 22nd and came away with a split. The Gold B team cruised their way to a 42-18 win. The boys used great passing and finding of the open man to generate their victory. Nathan D.led with with 12 pts on many offensive rebound putbacks. Bennett P.had 8 pts. Dallon A.and Cole T.had 6 pts each. Leo F.and Spencer H.had 4pts each and Tilly K.had 2 pts. The A team played a hard fought and low scoring game in the first half. Both teams played exceptional defense, with the Knights trailing 14-8 at the half. The second half was a game of runs and in the end the Hornets defeated the Knights 39-30. Owen H.slashed his way to a team leading 11pts. Matt M.and Michael J.had 4 pts each. Zach H.and Logan J.had 3 pts each. Colton D.and Aidan H.each finished with 2 pts.
The 7th grade boys’ basketball team took on Monticello on February 13th. The A team won a closely contested game 46-42. With the game tied at 42 and the Knights coming out of a timeout, Owen H.made a back door cut and got a layup to put the Knights up 2. Matt M.then got two free throws at the end to seal the win. Colton D.again led the way with 16 pts with good inside play. Owen H.was next with 9pts. Matt M.had 6 pts. Michael J.made 4 free throws. Mason W.had 3 pts. Zach H.and Brody O.had 2 pts each and Aidan H.had 1 pt. The Gold B team started quickly, but the Magic went on a big second half run and beat the knights 30-28. Nathan D.led e way with 16 pts. Nathan S.and Bennett P.had 4 each. Daniel P.and Dallon A.had 2 each.
The 7th grade boys’basketball team traveled to Isanti on February 12th to take on the Bluejackets and came home with two wins. The A team scrapped their way to a 44-31 win on an evening where their shots were not falling from the outside. Their attacks of the basket, and enough transition baskets were the difference in the end. Colton D.led the way with 17 pts, many of which were putbacks off of offensive rebounds. Logan J.was next with 8 pts. Matthew M.and Aidan H.each had 6 pts. Charlie W.had 4 pts and Zach H.and Brody O.had 2 pts each. In the B game, the Knights used fast break baskets and defensive pressure to turn steals into baskets on the other end and cruised to a 45-19 win. Cole T.led the way with 15 pts and numerous steals. Ethan R.-W.cleaned up on the glass and finished with 12 pts. Kurtis L.had 5 pts. Sam H.and Colin M.each had 4 pts and Issac Y., Roman G.-R., Ashtyn G., and James Z. each had 2 pts. All members of the team that played tonight made the scoring column which showed another complete team effort in the victory.
The 7th grade Gold B team blew Buffalo out of the water on February 6th 33-9. They played exceptional defense and made some nice plays. Nate D. had some good drives to the basket and strong rebounds. He lead the way with 12 points. Nathan S.followed with a beautiful 3 pointer in the second half and scored 7 points the whole game. Cole T.scored 4 points. Charles S.and Spencer H.each scored 3 points. Rounding out the scoring were Benny P.and Daniel P.with 2 points each. The A teamhad to come from behind to win their game. Trailing by 8 with just over 10 minutes to go, the team went on a 16-6 run to finish the game with increased defensive pressure and limiting the Bison to one shot on the defensive end of the floor. With the score tied at 36 under 1 minute remaining, the Knights forced a bad inbounds pass which Matt M.corralled and scored the game winning basket to secure a 38-36 win. Logan J. led the way with 12 pts. Matt M.had 8 pts, including the game winner. Owen H. and Mason W.each had 6 pts, and Colton D., Zach H.and Brody O.each had 2 pts in the victory. The Blue B team led almost throughout to claim a 38-29 win. Great attacks of the baskets and making the extra pass to find the open man led the team to the victory. Cole T.had 12 pts and numerous assists to lead the team. Ethan R.-W.cleaned the glass and worked hard inside to generate 8 pts for the team. Roman G.-R.and Kurtis L. each had 4 pts, and Isaac Y., Sam H., Colin M., Leo K., and Ashtyn G.all had 2 pts each.

The A team used good shooting and defensive pressure in the second half to come away with a 52-40 win. The A team was led by three double figure scorers. Matthew M.led with with 14 pts. Logan J.had 12 pts and Aidan H.had 10 pts. Colton D.had 8. Owen H.chipped in 6. Charlie W.contributed 2. The Gold B team played impressively on both ends of the floor and ran their way to a 39-19 win. Charlie W.and Nathan D. led the way with 10 pts each. Cole T.had 6 pts. Bennett P.had 4. Nathan S.and Spencer H.had 2 each. Brody O. contributed numerous assists in leading the offense from the point guard position.
The 7th grade boys basketball team took on the Bison from Buffalo on January 29th and came away with three wins. The A team started quickly and jumped out to 7-0 lead forcing the Bison to call timeout. The Bison responded with a 9-2 run to get back into the game. Midway through the second half, the Knights put on a press to create numerous turnovers and easy buckets to regain the lead. Good situational play down the stretch led to a 33-29 win. Logan J. made 1 of 2 freethrows with 15 seconds left to seal the win. The scoring was once again very balanced. Logan J. led the way with 10pts. Owen H. was next with 6. Matthew M. chipped in 5 pts. Colton D. had 4 pts. Charlie W. and Aidan H. had 3 pts each and Zach H. contributed 2 pts. The Gold team played shorthanded and finished the game with 6 players due to injury. The boys in blue played good defense despite the lack of substitutions that were available. Nathan D. had a great all around game with 11 pts and numerous assists from the high post. Charles S. had his best game of the young season with 7 pts that came on multiple back door cuts that led to easy lay-ups. Nathan S. had numerous steals and pitched in 4 pts. Cole T. and Spencer H. and Bennett P. had 2 pts each. The boys ran really good offense and were always looking for the open man and that led to many good looks at the basket. The Gold B team also won. The boys played well as a team and worked hard to open up the court and get each team member to the basket. Everyone scored points last night. Ashtyn G. lead the way with 10 pts, two of them being free throws. Ethan R.-W. followed with 6 pts, Cole T. and Roman G.-R. scored 4 pts each and rounding out the scoring for the night were Kurt L., Isaac Y., and Colin M. with 2 pts each.
The 7th grade boys’ basketball team took on the Tigers from Princeton on January 25th and came away with two close losses. The Blue B team Knights played a close competitive game throughout and had many successful drives to the basket which resulted in points. In the end though, they were not able to get enough defensive stops to chip into the lead. Cole T. led the way with 16 pts and numerous rebounds underneath. Ethan R-W. used a good inside game to net 6 pts. Roman G-R. and James Z. each contributed 2 pts each. The A team struggled through a poor shooting night and some defensive lapses, but were still in the game until the end losing 32-26 to the Tigers. Owen H. led the way with numerous aggressive drives to the basket and finished with 13 pts. Aidan H. had 5 points and some key putbacks off some offensive rebounds. Matthew M. had 4 pts. Colton D. had 3 pts, and Logan J.finished with 2 pts.
The 7th grade boys basketball team took on Isanti on January 23rdand came away with a pair of impressive victories. In the A game, all ten team members scored in this contest and demonstrated the great unselfish team mentality that this group has. They are always looking for the open man, making the extra pass to get a better shot, and looking to create for their teammates. The biggest improvement has been in their defensive intensity as the group is taking pride in shutting down their opponent on the defensive end of the floor. Logan J.led the way with 18pts. Zach H.and Aidan H.were also in double figures with 10 pts each. Owen H.was next with 9 pts. Mason W.and Colton D.each had 6 pts. Brody O.hit a 3 pointer and Charlie W., Michael J.and Matthew M.each contributed 2 pts each. The Gold B group had the same good fortune as the A group did and all nine players who played scored in this game, and the scoring was very balanced. Extra passes and great backdoor cuts and movement on offense contributed to the win. Leo F. led the way with 12 pts. Dallon A., Nathan D., Tilly K., Nathan S., and Cole T.all had 6 pts each. Spencer H.got his first two buckets of the year and finished with 4 pts. Bennett P.and Daniel P. each pitched in 2 pts.

STMA led most of the game, but trailed by two with three minutes to play. A quick 6-0 scoring run game the Knights a lead they would not relinquish. Dallon A. led the way with 10 pts and 8 rebounds. Leo F. contributed 7 pts and had numerous steals with his quick hands on defense. Nathan D. muscled his way to 4 pts. Cole T. had 2 pts and Spencer H. had 1 pt. The A team came out with much more intensity and effort on both ends of the floor and cruised their way to a 54-26 win. They turned their defensive pressure into many transition baskets. The Knights A team struggled defensively and couldn’t find enough ways to score early on and trailed by 16 midway through the second half losing 47-35. They rallied with increased defensive pressure but could get no closer than 7 pts. Logan J. led with 11 pts, Zach H. had 7 pts, Aiden H. added 6 pts, Mason W. chipped in 5 pts, Michael J. had 3 pts, and Colton D. and Owen H. each had 2 pts. The Blue B team lost 27-21. They played steady throughout, but in the end were not able to make enough plays down the stretch. Cole T. led with 10 pts. Ashtyn G. had 4 pts. Kurtis L. had 3 pts. Colin M. and Issac Y. each chipped in 2 pts.

The 8th grade A team defeated the Wayzata East Trojans in their final game of the season on December 19th. Six girls scored 6 or more points in the match-up while all girls contributed to the 64 point total. Defensive hustle and transition points led the team to victory. Megan S. and Sophie J. each tallied 1 block for the game. The win was the perfect way to close a successful season! The girls finished with a very nice 7-3 record. The Gold B Team hung in there, but fell to a talented Princeton Tiger team on December 19th to close out their season with a 4 and 4 record. Sydney R. played outstanding on both ends, and had 16 points and 5 steals. Lynzie M. and Bailey A. put in 14 points combined. Coach Fischer and Coach Schlangen would like to thank the girls for their hard work, and wish them luck in bettering their skills this offseason.
The 8th grade girls’ basketball Gold B team fell to Isanti on December 18th in a scrappy game. The Knights were led in the hustle by Sydney R. with 4 steals. Five girls scored for the team. The 8th grade Blue B team ended their season with a 26-18 win against Isanti on Monday. Unselfish team play and hustle led the team to victory. Every girl scored in the game. Natalie Z. took her first charge of the season. Awesome season girls!!
Congrats to the 8th grade girls’ basketball A Team as they improved their record to 5 wins and 3 losses on the season, with a nice come from behind victory over the Magic in Monticello on December 12th. The Lady Knights found themselves down by 4 at halftime, but turned up the interior defense, and limited the Magics’ post players in the second half, leading to a 37-32 win. Contributions came from all the girls, led by Sophie J.’s 13 points and 8 rebounds. Abby C., Mya K., Emma D., and Hailey E. were outstanding in getting rebounds and playing tough post defense, also scoring 8 points in the paint to aid the attack. The Blue B Team played a great game, but just couldn’t hit enough shots, as they lost a close game to a solid Magic B team. Execution of the teams’ offensive sets and out of bounds plays were on full display, and it was awesome to see the girls play unselfish team basketball. Raelin S. shot the ball well on her way to 10 points, and Bella M. and Casey F. each chipped in with 4.
The 8th grade Gold B basketball team fell to the Monticello Magic on December 12th in a tough loss. The girls picked up their defense and attacked the basket in the second half, being led by Sydney R. with 13 points and Lynzie M. with 6.
The 8th grade girls’ A team defeated North Branch on December 7th with a commanding win. The Knights jumped the lead with a 15-0 run to start the game. They followed with excellent team play, getting everyone in the books by the end of the game, adjusting to both man and zone defense. Emma D. scored her first basket of the season. The Gold B team improved to 4 and 1 on the season with a thrilling one point victory. Peyton L. banked home a 17 foot shot which proved to be the winner after the defense got a stop to seal it. Lynzie M. led the way with 15 points.
The 8th grade girls Gold B team played a tough HL-W-W team on December 4th. The Knights lost the game, but still came out with a few victories. Lynzie M. pushed the tempo and attacked the basket to create for the team, scoring 6 points in the process. Five additional players scored in the game, including Emma D., Raelin S., Sydney R., Libby L., and Rosella S. It was a great team effort! Both the 8th grade A, and Blue B Basketball Teams Traveled to Chisago Lakes on December 4th, and each team lost in close battles with the Wildcats. The defeats moved both teams’ records to 2 and 3 on the season. Abby C. was huge on the defensive end, and tallied 8 rebounds, and Karlee B. showed off her quickness on her way to a team high 11 points.
The 8th grade Girls Basketball teams downed the Buffalo Bison in both games on November 28th. The A team avenged an earlier season loss, and hung on for a 24-23 victory. Mya K. got a key steal and passed to Mikayla V. who scored a layup which proved to be the game winner. Mikayla led all scorers with 9, Jenna J.had 6. The win puts the A team at a 2 and 2 record. The Gold B team won their third game in a row 33-23. The girls outhustled the Bison to rebounds and got many extra shots as a result. Great hustle was on display throughout the game, and the girls showed some excellent teamwork. Bailey A. scored 6, and Peyton L. had 2 points, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds to aid the winning effort.
Let’s give a shoutout to the 8th grade Girls Basketball Teams, as they traveled to Big Lake on November 27th and proved to be ungrateful guests, beating the Hornets in both the A and B games. The A team earned their first win on the season, and the Gold B team improved to 2 and 0 as both teams cruised to victories. Sophie J. again led the way, with 14 points, Mikayla V. made 7 points look easy, and Hailey E. put in 6. Mya K. had 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, to go with her 2 points. Lynzie M. and Raelin S. each played strong games, notchin 9 and 8 points, respectively. Aria B-F. controlled the paint, corralling 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
The 8th grade girls’ basketball Blue B team traveled to Princeton and won 29-23 on November 21st. The girls came out moving ball well on offense and playing good pressure defense to finish the first half up 22-6. Hannah S. hit a big 3 at the end of the game to secure the win. Scoring for the Knights were Hannah S. with 9, Montee D. with 8, Karlee B. & Bella M. with 4 each, and Casey F. & Natalie Z. both scored 2 points each. Great hustle and team play by all the girls!
The 8th grade girls Blue B basketball team started November 20th’s game against Monticello with intensity, but were defeated 28-19 in the closing minutes. They excelled from selfless team play, including vital screens set by Lydia P., and fastbreak teamwork from Casey F.and Natalie Z. Scoring for the Knights were Hannah S.with 9, Bella M.with 6 and Casey F.with 4. Congrats to the 8th grade girls basketball Gold B team on earning their first victory of the season over the Cambridge Bluejackets, winning 30 to 14 on November 20th. All eight players that suited up for this game, got in the scoring column, led by Raelin S.s 8 points. Sydney R. scored 6 and had a few nice assists, and Jamie T. ripped down 8 rebounds to go with her 2 points. The A team lost a close one 31-30 to the Bluejackets. Sophie J. played outstanding, scoring 15 points, including 9 of 12 from the free throw line. Megan S. once again turned in a strong game on the defensive end, and finished with 4 points.
The 8th grade Girls Basketball Teams traveled to Buffalo on November 13th to open up their season against the Bison. The Lady Knights were able to earn a split on the road trip, with the A team losing 25 to 13, and the Blue B Team winning 36 to 6. The A team was led by Mikayla V.’s 7 points and 5 rebounds. The Blue B team had six different players get in the books, led by Bella M.’s 10 points, Karlee B. had 8 points and dished out 4 assists, and Casey F. and Hannah S. each put in 6 points. Montee D. did a nice job patrolling the paint, and finished with 4 points.

The 7th grade A team defeated the Wayzata East Trojans on December 19th in their final game of the season. The team finished undefeated after scoring 77 points in the match-up. All girls who played in the game scored while five girls had 8 or more points. The Knight defense forced three turnovers from 5 second violations in the first half. Relentless hustle and teamwork led the Knights to an unmatched season! The 7th grade girls’ B basketball team came away with a 54 to 15 win over Princeton on December 19th. All ten girls scored in this contest with many nice passing plays and teamwork. Nikki B. scored 14 while collecting numerous rebounds. Sam K. scored 10 in the game. Ella H. had 10 rebounds with aggressive play under the basket. Elliott L. and Emma D. each had excellent drives to the basket that resulted in 2 points.Coach Anfenson and Coach Schlangen would like to thank all the girls on the team including student manager Peyton L. They all brought great positive energy to the court and worked hard during this successful season.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball team beat Isanti 49-11 on December 18th. Every girl on the team scored at least one basket in the game. Hannah K. scored 10 points followed by Emily Z. who scored 8. Sam K. dominated the board gathering in 10 rebounds.The B team got off to a fast start, but cold shooting in the second half resulted in a tough loss for the girls. Taylor J. scored some nice hoops early while Lukanu B. provided some inside hoops. Isanti was tough on defense and excellent at driving to the basket. The STMA girls fought hard but came up a bit short in the end.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball A team cruised to victory over St. Louis Park on December 12th. Playing stingy defense and unselfish offense the girls dominated the game start to finish. Lauren H. scored 14 with aggressive drives to the basket. Sam K. and Zaya E. had 8 each. Four girls had 6 points. This is shows the balanced attack this team has shown all season. Edie N. was the star on defense with several deflections and steals.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball team came away with victories over Monticello on December 11th. The A team started fast with many steals and break away lay ups. Gabby V. had 10 point most came after a steal and a nice pass. The team showed nice balance with several players contributing in a positive way. The B team started fast too. Julia W. dominated around the basket with rebounds and nice shots. Emily Z. was tough from the point guard position. Drew B. showed a nice scoring touch hitting a couple of nice mid- range shots. Both teams continue to improve as they head into the final week of the season.
On December 7th, The 7th grade girls’ B basketball team had an outstanding come from behind victory over North Branch 25-22 after trailing 16-7 half way through the second half. Emma D. started the rally with a driving lay-up that energized the team. Makiah K. stole an in –bounds pass that stopped a scoring opportunity for North Branch late in the game. Annie T. and Niki B. executed a perfect pick and roll to put the Knights up by three. A late 3 point attempt by North Branch missed and the team hung on for the win. Niki B. had 9 points and a ton of rebounds and Annie T. scored 6 all in the second half.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball A and B teams both defeated Big Lake on December 5th. The A team had all 10 players score. Makenzie B. played well on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Lauren H. and Zaya E. each scored 14 points. The B team had players trying multiple positions on the court. All players made positive contributions in the game. Annie T. provided excellent rebounding and scoring touch around the hoop. Emma D. made a nice driving lay up to get into the scoring column. Lukanu B. was active around the basket getting many rebounds and providing nice hustle plays. Both teams are making strides and positive improvement on the court.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball A team had another convincing win on December 4th to start the week. After a sluggish beginning the Knights slowly pulled away for a comfortable win over Chisago Lakes. The girls again showed balance scoring with many girls entering the score column. Lauren H. scored 13 points inside the paint while Niki B. had 9 and Gabby V. had 8. The team thrives on steals and fast break scoring. There is still work to be done in the half- court offense.The B team played solid defense and executed a nice pick and roll game in the win for the Knights. Molly R. had 12 points showing her aggressive play around the basket. Sam K. had 10 points while playing multiple positions on the court. Emily Z. had 8 from her point guard position. Makiah K. had 3 points with a nice shot and free throw. Kyra P. nailed her first points of the season with a nice 15 foot swish in the victory. Some of the 7th grade girls B team played Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in a tough battle on December 4th. The Knights fell to the Lakers 35-34, after leading until the final 30 seconds of play. Leading the Knights with stellar play was Julia W. with 6 points, 4 assists and 3 blocks, as well as 13 points from Hannah K., 7 from Edie N., 4 from Taylor J., and 2 each by Lukanu B. and Drew B. The lady Knights went 6 for 10 at the line.
The 7th grade girls’ A basketball team had a convincing win over Buffalo on November 28th. The team played with a lot of energy and effort. All nine players scored in the game. Three players had 9 points including Piper C., Zaya E., and Lauren H. It was a nice team effort for the girls.The 7B team had a dominating performance also. They jumped out to a 17-0 advantage with excellent defense that created easy baskets. Avery F. and Emily Z. had 12 points followed by Edie N. who had 10. All eight girls who played in the game scored. The 7th grade Girls B basketball team fell to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted’s A team in a tough battle. The Knights battled it out, showing great hustle and energy throughout the game. Kyra P. led the team with hustle by grabbing steal after steal, while Brooke H. set up her teammates with wonderful screens. Nikki B. led the team with 8 points, followed by Emily Z. with 7 and Lukanu B. with 4.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball B team traveled to Big Lake on November 27th and came away with a 54-10 victory. Molly R. scored 18 points using a nice shooting touch around the basket. Emily Z. kicked in 10 points from the point guard position. Avery F. had 8 points on a mix of fast break lay ups and outside shooting. The team played aggressive defense that contributed to many steals and scoring chances. Nicole B. was a steady defender and rebounder. Taylor J. scored her first points of the season on a nice lay-up and free throw. Lukanu B. assisted on several scoring chances by setting solid screens to free up teammates. The A team overcame early foul trouble to post 54-12 victory. The team struggled early making shots from close range. Aggressive defense provided numerous steals that gave the team extra scoring chances. Zaya E. scored 14 and was solid at the point guard position. Piper C. scored 10 points all in the second half. Her offensive rebounding provided her with easy put backs. Mackenzie B. had 7 points including 1 three pointer. Drew B. was gritty on defense and made a nice 15 foot shot. Both teams showed rust from the Thanksgiving break and improved as the game went on.
On November 21st, the 7th grade girls’ basketball B team beat Princeton 44-9. Hannah K. scored 14 points followed by Sam K. with 9 and Ella H. 8. The team raced out to a 17-0 advantage and never looked back. Makiah K., Brooke H., and Kyra P. scored their first hoops of the season. The team continues to improve and will still need to focus on their fundamentals moving forward.
The 7th grade girls’ basketball A team came away with a 50-17 victory over Cambridge on November 20th. Balanced scoring was key in the victory with many different girls make contributions in the score column. Lauren H. poured in 12 while Zaya E. had 8. Piper C. had 7 points and was all over the floor grabbing rebounds and loose balls. The Knights were very aggressive on defense which resulted in fast break baskets. Gabby V. had another solid game and showed that good practice habits pay off. The STMA 7B also had strong game beating Cambridge 38-11. Hannah K. had strong game scoring 15 points. Her quickness and athletic ability allowed her to drive by her defender for easy hoops. Samantha K. and Ella H. provided a strong inside combination that resulted in many positive plays. Both teams still have areas to improve. With continued hard work they should see improved free throw shooting and finishing shots at the basket.
The STMA girls’ 7th grade A basketball team came away with a convincing win over Buffalo on November 13th. All ten girls got in the score column. Lauren H. provided inside scoring with 11 points while Zaya E. played solid defense on the perimeter gaining several steals in the game. It was a good start for the girls with good effort and team play. The B team also delivered a convincing victory. The team played well on both ends of the floor. Molly R. poured in 12 points followed by Niki B. with 10 and Edie N. with 8.

Congratulations to the middle school wrestling team on capturing the Mississippi 8 conference title on January 22nd. The Knights had 5 individual champions. It was a fantastic season!! Parker J., Eli D., Travis S., Kaden A., and Aidan L. all were conference champions in their weight class.
The Knights wrestled Monticello on December 19th and came away with a 73 25 win. Jaxon C. and Jake S. each had two falls for the Knights. Carter K., Luke W., Myles D. also pinned their opponent and Eli D. won a hard fought 3-2 match.
Congratulations to the middle school wrestling team on their fine performance in New Prague on December 2nd. No team points were kept but the Knights wrestled very well! Jaxon D., Aidan L, and Kaden A. all won their weight classes.
